The Irish National Flying Club Yearling National race was held on Thursday, 11th June 2009 from Sennen Cove. The very popular winner of this prestigious event is the Finglas loft of Liam Donnelly & Son. It seemed as if half of Dublin was in contact with Liam as soon as the news broke that he was this year's winner.
Not only is Liam a first class fancier, he is deeply involved in the management of the powerful Finglas RPC, holding the position of Chairman this season.
Here is Liam, outside his loft, holding the winning pigeon. It is a blue cock, its sire bred by Jan Kuijzer of Holland, and the dam a hen which Liam borrowed from the legendary Tommy Nelson of Dublin.
Liam is very committed to National Racing. In the recent Old Bird National Skibbereen, He was 3rd and 4th Section, 16th and 17th Open.
He flies the roundabout system.
Verifying the pigeon for the INFC, and of course, congratulating Liam on his win, is Eugene Fitzgerald, Vice-President of the INFC and President of the Irish Homing Union AND the Confederation!
I have included here photos taken of members sending pigeons from Dublin, including John Kenna and his crew from the South Leinster Federation who very kindly collect some of the Dublin pigeons and bring them to the marking.
